This role is for someone who already uses HiiKER a lot. You hike often, you plan routes in the app, you record them, you download the maps for the bits with no signal, and you have opinions about all of it. That's the starting point — the job is turning it into a better app for everyone else.
It's fully remote, and we mean it: a van, a bothy, a different trail every week. You'll need to be based in Ireland or the UK, but beyond that, if you're a nomad who hikes, this will suit you.
What you'll do
- Talk to our customers. Answer support conversations in Intercom, get people unstuck, and feed what you're hearing back to the team so the same problem stops arriving twice.
- Take over support.hiiker.app and keep the knowledge base up to date, fill the gaps, and make it the place people find the answer before they need to ask us.
- Make videos, demos, screen recordings and tutorials on how to use the app in the field — planning a route, navigating offline, recording a hike — filmed on real trails, not at a desk.
- Test, test, test. Try new features before they ship, on real hikes, on different phones and watches, in bad weather and with no signal, on the app and on the website. Report what's broken clearly enough that an engineer can reproduce it.
What we're looking for
- You hike a lot, and you use HiiKER to do it. Tell us about your last few trips and what the app did well and badly on them.
- Patient and clear in writing.
- Comfortable making a screen recording or a short phone video and editing it into something watchable. Polish is optional; clarity isn't.
- Methodical about bugs: what you did, what you expected, what happened, and on which device — every time.
- Self-directed and happy working alone, often a long way from anyone else on the team.
Bonus points for
- Previous support, QA or community work for an app.
- Experience with Intercom or a similar help desk, and a knowledge-base tool.
- A second language — a lot of our users aren't reading English.
- Both an iPhone and an Android phone, or a watch — the more devices the better.
- A long-distance trail under your belt, or several.
About HiiKER
HiiKER is a hiking app used by well over a million people to find trails, download offline maps and navigate everything from an afternoon loop to a thousand-kilometre thru-hike.
We're a remote team based across the UK and Ireland. The work you do shows up in the product within weeks, you will make a real difference and help perfect the product for millions of fellow hikers.
What we offer
- Remote-first — work from wherever you're happiest, with occasional team meet-ups.
- A short path from "good idea" to "shipped" — no layers of sign-off.
- Real ownership of a channel or a system, not a slice of someone else's plan.
- Budget for the kit and tools you need to do the job properly.
- A free HiiKER PRO+ account for you, and a few to give away.
- Time and encouragement to actually get outdoors — it's the product, and we mean it.
How to apply
Use the form below. A CV plus a few honest sentences about why this role interests you goes a long way — we read every application ourselves, and we'd much rather see something specific than something polished.
We'll come back to you either way. The process is a short intro call, one practical conversation about the work itself, and a final chat with Pete and Paul, the founders.
