What you'll do
- Plan, build and run paid social campaigns across Meta, TikTok, Reddit, Google and Apple Search Ads — through budget pacing to an honest weekly readout of what worked.
- Make the ad creative yourself. You won't be handing briefs to an agency and waiting a fortnight: you'll cut the video, write the hooks, build the variants and get them live while the idea is still worth testing. Our Content Creator is there for the bigger productions, but the day-to-day ad creative is yours.
- Own the organic social calendar across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and Reddit: plan it, write it, ship it, and keep HiiKER sounding like HiiKER.
- Test channels beyond the obvious ones — Reddit communities, hiking press and print, tourism boards, podcast sponsorships, outdoor retail partnerships — and be straight with us about which ones deserve more money and which don't.
- Manage engagement properly. Our audience talks back constantly, in comments, DMs and forum threads, and a fast, human reply is one of the best marketing assets we have.
- Continue to build upon our influencer and partnership pipeline, end to end: find them, pitch them, negotiate, brief them, and track what actually converts rather than what merely got views. Our Ambassador programme is already running and is yours to grow.
- Organise and co-host live webinars alongside Pete and Paul, our co-founders — choose the topics, line up guests, drive sign-ups, run the show on the day and handle the follow-up.
- Own App Store Optimisation across the App Store and Play Store: keywords, screenshots, listing copy, localisation and a steady cadence of A/B tests.
- Report on all of it. We run Mixpanel, PostHog, RevenueCat, Search Console and the store consoles — you'll be in them daily and you'll be the person who tells the rest of us what the numbers mean.
What we're looking for
- Two to four years running consumer marketing hands-on, ideally for an app or a subscription product. We care much more about what you've personally shipped than about the size of the company you shipped it at.
- You've owned a paid social budget yourself and can talk about CAC, ROAS and payback periods from your own campaigns, including the ones that didn't work.
- A strong, quick writer with a native feel for short-form video and for how each platform's audience actually talks.
- You can produce the creative yourself — cutting short-form video in CapCut or similar, and putting together static and carousel ads. It doesn't need to be broadcast quality; it needs to be quick, native to the platform and testable.
- Comfortable in analytics tools without needing someone to pull numbers for you. You should be able to build a funnel view and spot when a metric is lying.
- Genuinely self-directed. There is no marketing department to hide behind and nobody will be assigning you tasks each morning.
Bonus points for
- Previous ASO work, or experience growing a subscription app.
- You hike, run trails, or otherwise spend real time outdoors.
- A second European language — German, French or Spanish especially. Large chunks of our audience aren't reading English.
- Experience with community-heavy channels like Reddit or Discord, where marketing that smells like marketing gets punished.
About HiiKER
HiiKER is a hiking app used by well over a million people to find trails, download offline maps and navigate everything from an afternoon loop to a thousand-kilometre thru-hike.
We're a remote team based across the UK and Ireland. The work you do shows up in the product within weeks, and nobody here has the luxury of only doing the parts of their job they enjoy.
What we offer
- Remote-first — work from wherever you're happiest, with occasional team meet-ups.
- A short path from "good idea" to "shipped" — no layers of sign-off.
- Real ownership of a channel or a system, not a slice of someone else's plan.
- Budget for the kit and tools you need to do the job properly.
- A free HiiKER PRO+ account for you, and a few to give away.
- Time and encouragement to actually get outdoors — it's the product, and we mean it.
How to apply
Use the form below. A CV plus a few honest sentences about why this role interests you goes a long way — we read every application ourselves, and we'd much rather see something specific than something polished.
We'll come back to you either way. The process is a short intro call, one practical conversation about the work itself, and a final chat with Pete and Paul, the founders.
