We have a catalogue of thousands of trails, a million-plus hikers, and more genuinely good stories than we have anyone to tell them. This role is for the person who goes out, films it, cuts it, and posts it.
It's a creative role with an outdoor job attached: some weeks you'll be on a trail with a phone and a tripod, others you'll be at a desk editing, writing and planning the next month. We're looking for someone with taste and their own point of view, not someone waiting for a brief.
What you'll do
- Shoot and edit short-form vertical video for TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts, at a cadence that keeps our channels alive rather than in bursts.
- Get out on the trails. Walk the routes, film the reality of them — the weather, the climbs, the terrible camp meals — and come back with material we can use for months.
- Turn what's in HiiKER into content: the hardest day on the Camino, the ten best coastal routes in Europe, what a thru-hike actually costs. We have the data; you make people care about it.
- Write longer-form pieces too — trail guides, gear notes and route features for the blog and for search.
- Build recurring formats and series rather than one-off posts. Something people come back for on a schedule.
- Work closely with our Marketing Specialist on which content earns its way into paid campaigns, and cut variants for it.
- Help brief and coordinate our Ambassador creators, so their content and ours pull in the same direction.
- Keep an organised bank of raw footage, stills and captions the whole team can pull from.
What we're looking for
- A portfolio of short-form video you made yourself, with honest numbers attached. We'd rather see three things that performed and hear why than a showreel.
- You can shoot and edit end to end without a crew. Phone-first is completely fine — most of the best outdoor content is.
- Either comfortable on camera yourself, or clearly able to direct someone who is.
- Genuinely into the outdoors. This audience spots someone who has never had wet boots within about four seconds.
- Reliable output. Consistency beats occasional brilliance on every one of these platforms.
- A good writer — captions, hooks and titles are most of the job.
Bonus points for
- Strong stills photography alongside the video.
- Motion graphics, captioning and sound design beyond the built-in presets.
- You've run a brand account before, not only your own.
- Drone footage, and the licence to fly legally where you are.
- A second language, and the willingness to make content in it.
- Any long-distance trail experience — a thru-hike, a Camino, a Munro round.
About HiiKER
HiiKER is a hiking app used by well over a million people to find trails, download offline maps and navigate everything from an afternoon loop to a thousand-kilometre thru-hike.
We're a remote team based across the UK and Ireland. The work you do shows up in the product within weeks, and nobody here has the luxury of only doing the parts of their job they enjoy.
What we offer
- Remote-first — work from wherever you're happiest, with occasional team meet-ups.
- A short path from "good idea" to "shipped" — no layers of sign-off.
- Real ownership of a channel or a system, not a slice of someone else's plan.
- Budget for the kit and tools you need to do the job properly.
- A free HiiKER PRO+ account for you, and a few to give away.
- Time and encouragement to actually get outdoors — it's the product, and we mean it.
How to apply
Use the form below. A CV plus a few honest sentences about why this role interests you goes a long way — we read every application ourselves, and we'd much rather see something specific than something polished.
We'll come back to you either way. The process is a short intro call, one practical conversation about the work itself, and a final chat with Pete and Paul, the founders.
